NIL stands for Name, Image, and Likeness. It is the legal right of an athlete to profit from their personal brand.
In the past, amateur athletes were forbidden from making money, but today, you can be paid for things like social media sponsorships, autograph signings, coaching camps, and commercial appearances. Essentially, it treats you like a business owner, allowing you to monetize your influence while still competing in sports.
The “Big Three” of NIL:
- Name: Using your name on jerseys, merchandise, or in advertisements.
- Image: Using your face or physical appearance in photos, videos, or video games.
- Likeness: Using your personality, signature, or specific “vibe” to promote a product.
